Defending The Rights of Asia Pacific Indigenous Youth

Because of the unique and sometimes pervasive problems facing many indigenous youth, it is important that groups such as the Asia Pacific Indigenous Youth Network exist to defend and promote their rights. This aforementioned group rouses indigenous youth to stand up for their rights and make their issues known to those in leadership.

Struggles of Asia Pacific Indigenous Youth

Indigenous people continue to face discrimination and hardships all over the Asia Pacific region. For the youth, the struggles are often more specific. They tend to feel caught between two worlds. The traditional ways they’ve been brought up, with a distinct language and culture, and then the modern world and the language that everyone else is speaking.

Raising Awareness With Asia Pacific Indigenous Youth Network

The goal of the Network is to develop the youth of the Asia-Pacific region so that they can acquire the methods to become more confident of their advocacy. There are many ways to proceed with this task, but many informed people believe that providing systems of information and networking will open the doors for prioritizing and uniting the abilities of Indigenous Youth. One proven method is to exchange and share new ideas and thoughts with other Indigenous Communities.

In the midst of renewed violence in West Papua, between proponents of political self-determination and the Indonesian military, The West Papua National Committee KNPB announced plans to re-organize the people of West Papua, for the purpose of demanding that the United Nations pursue a referendum in West Papua.
